Matt manages the South Point shop, and Kevin the shop at Madison Avenue.

Currently, Matt and Kevin, the fourth generation, are involved in the operation. Then, on June 22, 2009, our second location was opened at 4710 South Point Road. In March of 1999, the convenience store was leased. Riechers Shell was converted into a convenience store in July of 1993. In 1985, they bought Ken Holtmeyer’s station at 1000 East Fifth Street and in 1987 the business at South Point was closed. Roy retired in 1977 and then Gary and Marilyn purchased the business. Roy’s son Gary worked at the station during high school and also during the summers when he was in college. In 1962, Roy built an automatic car wash across the street which was one of the first in the metro area. In 1947, Roy and Verna bought the station when Fred retired.

There was not enough business for both of them to make a living, so Roy started a fuel, oil and gasoline tank wagon business.

Gas prices were between 12¢ and 15¢ per gallon, and you could buy a bottle of soda for 5¢.Īfter World War II, Fred’s son Roy became involved in the operation. Tires were patched for 25¢, and all the work was done outside, even the oil changes. It all began in October 1939, when Fred and Anna Riechers opened Riechers Service Station in South Point on Hwy. This year, Riechers Tire and Auto is proud to be celebrating over 82 years of successful business.
